Accreditation and standards

Constructionline

A pre-qualification register used by public and private sector buyers, with tiered membership (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) covering SSIP health and safety and the wider Common Assessment Standard.

Constructionline is a database of pre-qualified contractors that buyers search when compiling tender lists. Bronze verifies identity, insurance and financial information; Silver adds the SSIP health and safety assessment (via Constructionline's own Acclaim scheme or a recognised alternative); Gold covers the full Common Assessment Standard, including environmental, quality, equality and diversity, modern slavery, anti-bribery and information security; Platinum adds a site audit. Many main contractors and housing associations require a minimum level to be invited to tender at all.

For a small subcontractor, the question is what level the clients you want to work for ask for, and whether the annual fee is justified by the tenders it unlocks. The health and safety component is the SSIP standard, so the same evidence pack applies; the wider Common Assessment Standard questions are mostly about having written policies and being able to show they are applied.

Where it comes from

  • No statute; a procurement standard aligned to PAS 91 and the Common Assessment Standard.

Questions people ask

Is Constructionline the same as SSIP?

Constructionline's Silver and above include an SSIP health and safety assessment, and it recognises other SSIP schemes. Constructionline itself is the register and the wider pre-qualification; SSIP is the health and safety standard within it.
