What is a QA Inspection?
A QA (Quality Assurance) inspection is a formal check that work has been completed to the required standard. It's not the same as a snag — QA happens during construction, snagging happens at the end.
QA inspections check against specifications, drawings, British Standards, and building regulations. They should be carried out by someone competent — typically a site manager, clerk of works, or specialist inspector.
Types of QA Inspections
Different trades require different inspection criteria:
- Structural — RC frames, steelwork, foundations, masonry
- Building envelope — cladding, roofing, windows, waterproofing
- MEP — mechanical, electrical, plumbing installations
- Fitout — drylining, joinery, flooring, painting
- External works — drainage, landscaping, highways

What to Check
Every QA inspection should record:
- Pass, fail, or not applicable for each checklist item
- Measurements where relevant (levels, tolerances, cover depths)
- Photographic evidence

- Inspector name, date, and signature
